the house that jokes built
Little chumps with big dreams
In 2010, five comedy friends - Andy Matthews, Evan Munro-Smith, Bec Petraitis, Matt Stewart and Alasdair Tremblay-Birchall - wanted to make sketches and started a comedy group called Stupid Old Man. That sketch group built a studio around itself, like a caterpillar weaving a cocoon but the cocoon was a dingy warehouse in Brunswick. Out of that dingy cocoon crawled a beautiful production company called Stupid Old Studios.
It's a Funny business
We branched out from making sketches for ourselves to making things for other people. Our studio moved and got bigger and better. Our services evolved to include video production, podcasts, live events and fellow comedians started hiring desk space. The words 'total global domination' started to get thrown around.
Same chumps, new name
We're still a bit stupid and arguably even more old, but we've grown to be more than just five goobers making sketches in a warehouse. Now as a fully-fledged production house working with a variety of organisations and a team of talented creatives, we needed a new to reflect that we make seriously good stuff.
So after much debate and a brief but serious flirtation with the name 'Honk Honk', we became Humdinger.
We made it. And we're still making it.
Today Humdinger is, if not the heart of the comedy and creative community in Naarm, then at least the kidney or the pancreas. We provide space, tools and skills to help businesses and creatives make the things they want to make the way they want to make them. And by god it feels good.

Our Team
Meet the talented, cool and, frankly, gorgeous individuals who make Humdinger hum.
And, occasionally, ding.
Evan is a Humdinger founder and Managing Director. He built the studio from the ground up and knows how to do everything except wear something other than a hoodie.
Emma is our General Manager and likely the first person you'll speak to about making ideas happen. She's never happier than when she is elbow deep in a spreadsheet!
Bec is a Humdinger founder and media all-rounder, who you'll meet writing, producing, editing and refilling the bowl of Mentos.
Ritu is our Production Manager and has been voted most likely to send you a call sheet or greet you on a shoot.
Jam is a videographer who knows where all the cables go. His mix of creativity and technical know-how make him frankly, too good.
Simon is a videographer, who you'll find behind a camera on a shoot or editing up a coffee-infused storm in the office.
